They were found on Ashraf Hill in the Iranian province of Isfahan.

A team of archaeologists discoveredremains of two women from the Parthian period (247 BC – 224 AD) on Ashraf Hill in the Iranian province of Isfahan. The first skeleton of the ‘Parthian lady’ was found last July, in a place believed to be an ancient cemetery.

At a distance of 10 meters from the first, the burial place of a teenage girl was recently found, Alireza Jafari-Zand, who directs the excavations, revealed to the IRNA agency.

«It is buried in the form of an open arch. Evidence shows that the remains belonged toa teenager of about 12 or 13 years with a height of about 160 (centimeters) ", the archaeologist detailed, adding that the skeleton" is unfortunately damaged due to high humidity. "

Jafari-Zand claimed thatthe tomb "was designed" based on a special ritual, since next to the skeleton there was a stone platform on which they found fragments of a large jug and a part of the spine of a horse.

"Remains of this type of platform had already been found in the grave of the 'Parthian lady' and with a blue jug on it," he explained.

According to experts, the new finds and the discovery of an ancient burial containing the remains of a horse, which was made earlier this year, couldshed light on life during the pre-Islamic period in Isfahan.

The Parthian Empire, also known as the ‘Arsacid Empire’, was a major political and cultural power in ancient Iran.

At its peak, the state, which encompassed Persian, Hellenistic and regional cultures, stretched from north of the Euphrates River - now central-eastern Turkey - to eastern Iran.
